For the website, see Biostasis (website).

Biostasis is a biological state in which all metabolic processes in the body are suspended.[1] Essentially, it is putting a body on complete pause. In cryonics, biostasis is achieved through cryopreservation, with the hope that revival may be possible in the future.

Biostasis occurs in nature. For example, the body of the wood frog "freezes" during winter and thaws once its environmental conditions have improved.[2]
